FIHRM-LA, an international project based in Rosario.

FIHRM-LA was launched as a result of the 8th annual meeting of FIHRM, the Federation of International Human Rights Museums, held at the International Museum for Democracy, in the city of Rosario, Argentina, from November 28 to 30, 2017.

The idea arose from research carried out by FIHRM with member universities, which identified the need to establish a specific regional forum for museums in Latin America and related organizations, seeking to help strengthen dialogue on democracy and human rights in the region.

The countries that make up Latin America are: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.

In all of them, various organizations and museums carry out outstanding work in the field of human rights, preserving the memory of the violations of these rights during the dictatorships suffered in recent decades.

​This is fundamental work, because those who know their history and the struggles to win rights are aware of the value of these achievements and can react against other injustices that many members of their communities still suffer. In the face of these complex and difficult problems, the region's museums can and must activate their role as organizations at the service of people.

FIHRM-LA facilitates the establishment of a forum for debate, agreement and collaboration among Latin American museums, so that together they can develop their potential as educators, seeking to help their audiences take an interest in, understand and respect the rights that have been declared inalienable for all human beings.
