Guillermo Whpei at the UN International Human Rights Summit

Our Foundation's president was one of the keynote speakers at the UN International Human Rights Summit on Friday, June 28, before dozens of young people.

Invited by the nonprofit organization Youth for Human Rights International, Guillermo Whpei spoke about peace, about the current challenges we face in making this world a better place, and about the central role young people play in bringing about change. With his speech, he sought to prompt reflection on issues that we have come to accept as normal and that urgently need to be made visible: inequality, extreme poverty, urban violence, modern slavery.

That is where each of us matters, because peacebuilding stems from an individual decision, but it contributes to a construction that must be collective. Because we understand that it is not only a president, the United Nations or a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who can build peace. Each and every one of us can do it. It is a decision reflected in countless small everyday attitudes. Our president called on each of the young people present to become ambassadors of peace, indispensable agents of change if we want a less violent, fairer, more inclusive world, where respect is the rule.
